The Dolphins are cautiously optimistic about quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s chances of playing Sunday against the Colts but aren’t certain, and a decision on his status will not be made until this weekend.
Tannehill again was limited in practice and was listed as questionable on the injury report. Tannehill still has swelling in his left knee, and he has been able to participate in only parts of practice this week.
“We’re going to make a decision as soon as we have enough relevant information to make a good decision,” coach Joe Philbin said. “We have no timetable on that.”
Quarterback Matt Moore was listed as probable with a calf injury, but he will start if Tannehill does not.
(groin/hamstring) andTony McDaniel
(knee) were listed as questionable, but both expect to play. CornerbackRichard Marshall
(back) is out. Moore, linebackerKarlos Dansby
, centerMike Pouncey
, running back
and linebackerJason Trusnik
• For the Colts, cornerbackVontae Davis
and tight endCoby Fleener
are out, and cornerbackDarius Butler
and tackleJeff Linkenbach
are questionable. QuarterbackAndrew Luck
(knee) and linebackerDwight Freeney
(ankle) are among those listed as probable.
“Kevin and Karlos are on the field virtually every snap,” Philbin said. “To have those kind of guys in this day and age in the National Football League says a lot about their athletic ability and the versatility they can provide you defensively.
“I really like Koa Misi’s play speed. I think he plays the game hard, plays fast on tape, he’s developing. I like what I see.”
Pro Football Focus ranks Burnett fifth and Misi 18th among 39 outside linebackers in a 4-3 defense, with Misi ranking fifth against the run. Dansby is ranked 10th among 49 inside linebackers.
But Dansby, who leads Miami with 54 tackles, said he’s not yet fully comfortable playing middle linebacker in a 4-3, which he had never done before this season. He said he “can’t say” he’s pleased with his performance.
“It’s still brand new to me,” he said. “It’s a new angle, a new play every week I’m trying to see. I’ve left too many plays out there — a lot of plays. I’ve left two or three interceptions out. I’m still missing tackles because of the angles I’m taking. It’s the learning curve I’m trying to get over. We’ve played well but not as well as we can play. We haven’t dominated the game.”
• Philbin has removed players from the game, at least temporarily, after fumbling but said he has no “hard-and-fast” policy about that. “It’s more of a feel thing than anything else.”
After Reggie Bush fumbled in the third quarter last week, Thomas replaced him for the subsequent three series.
“When I fumbled the ball, they took me out, but we had the game well within hand and it wasn’t any kind of punishment or anything like that,” Bush said. “They felt like they want to run the ball with him and so be it.”
