Ecstatic Miami Heat fans dressed in “white hot” gear spilled out into the streets after Saturday night’s victory to win the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics.
Throughout the night, a steady stream of cars honked as they passed outside the AmericanAirlines Arena in downtown Miami.
On Sunday, the celebrating continued. Fans came back to the arena to purchase Miami Heat winning gear. The Miami Hoops Gear store attracted both locals and tourists hoping to grab a souvenir.
The store is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday and at Dolphin Mall from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Never miss a local story.
Among the customers were Darrell and Miriam Dirks who drove from Tampa with relatives from California. On Sunday, Dirks bought an authentic "Eastern Conference Champions" shirt to ship off to the Los Angeles Heat fans. Dirks said he'd love to see Miami face Oklahoma, but getting tickets for the game seems unlikely.
"I'd probably have to take out a second mortgage," Dirks said, jokingly.
Tickets for Games 3 and 4, the first two home games on Sunday, June 17th and Tuesday, June 19th, went on sale noon on Sunday.
Fans can buy the tickets online at HEAT.com or through Ticketmaster. Tickets will be available at the AmericanAirlines’ ticket office starting at 10 a.m. on Monday.
Bill Matthews and his family came to the official Miami Heat store to buy heat gear for even the tiniest of family members.
The family had traveled from St. Petersburg Saturday night to watch the Tampa Bay Rays play the Miami Marlins at the new stadium. He said that although the two teams are rivals, everyone at Marlins Park came together to watch the Heat win the Eastern Conference.
"They shut off the Heat game at the stadium at 3 minutes to go and everybody went crazy," Matthews said.
"Everyone was on edge."
Tourist Lance Chau bought souvenirs for friends in his native Hong Kong.
"There aren't that many Heat fans, but a lot of people love LeBron," Chau said. He bought the James jersey for himself and a few other friends.
