A single-vehicle accident early Friday destroyed a section of the wave wall that runs next to the sidewalk along Fort Lauderdale Beach, officials said.
The accident happened about 5 a.m. along the 500 block of South Atlantic Boulevard.
A man in his mid-20s was trapped inside the vehicle and rescuers needed to use the Jaws of Life to free him, according to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue spokesman Matt Little.
The man was taken to Broward General Medical Center with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
The accident heavily damaged the vehicle, knocked out two light poles, cut a palm tree in half and destroyed an approximately 20-foot stretch of the wave wall, Little said.
No other information was immediately available.
