Cardiff, Wales (SportsNetwork.com) - Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday to lift Real Madrid to a 2-0 victory over Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup.
Last season's Champions League winners add to their trophy case thanks to a brace from the Portuguese superstar, who scored in the 30th and 49th minutes to help Los Merengues start the new season on the right foot.
Real Madrid nearly took the lead midway through the opening period when Ronaldo turned on a dime inside the penalty area to get through on goal, but his shot was blocked by a sprawling save from Beto.
But Ronaldo would not be denied at the half-hour mark when he connected on Gareth Bale's superb cross to the back post and poked a shot into the back of the net.
Ronaldo picked up right where he left off in the second half, doubling Madrid's advantage just four minutes after the restart.
The Portuguese winger surged into the box to cap a well-worked passing sequence by taking a through ball from Karim Benzema and firing a powerful left-footed strike past Beto at the far post.
It proved to be more than enough for Madrid to collect the win as the club secured its second-ever UEFA Super Cup.
