Avellaneda, Argentina (SportsNetwork.com) - Independiente opened the Argentine season with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Atletico Rafaela on Sunday.
The hosts were held in check until the closing stages of the first half when Federico Mancuello broke through for a 44th-minute opener.
The goal seemed to open the floodgates as Independiente hit for two more goals on the opposite side of halftime.
Francisco Pizzini doubled the club's advantage nine minutes after the break while Juan Lucero tacked on an insurance goal with 15 minutes left to play to cap a strong start to the campaign.
Godoy Cruz also marked its first contest of the season with a 3-0 victory as the club eased past Banfield on Friday.
Claudio Aquino and Ruben Ramirez bagged first-half goals to put Godoy Cruz in the driver's seat while Luis Jerez Silva added a second-half goal for good measure.
Also on Friday, Rosario Central overturned a first-half goal from Arnaldo Gonzalez to claim a 3-1 victory over Quilmes.
Boca Juniors suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Newell's Old Boys on Sunday while reigning champion River Plate was undone by a late goal from Pablo Vegetti in a 1-1 draw at Gimnasia LP.
Saturday's lone match saw newly-promoted Defensa y Justicia suffer a 3-1 defeat as a brace from Gabriel Hauche and second-half goal from Diego Milito guided Racing to a comfortable win.
And on Monday, Arsenal claimed a 2-1 win over Estudiantes while Velez Sarsfield edged Tigre in a 1-0 victory.
