New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Sporting Kansas City midfielder Benny Feilhaber was named the Player of the Week on Monday for Week 19 of the 2014 Major League Soccer season.
Feilhaber netted two goals and assisted on a third as he helped Sporting to a pair of 2-1 wins this past week.
On Wednesday against Columbus, Feilhaber set up the opening goal for C.J. Sapong in the 42nd minute with a corner kick before he tallied the winning goal in stoppage time by pouncing on a loose ball inside the penalty area and smashing a shot off the underside of the crossbar and into the net.
Feilhaber continued his good form on Saturday in a win over Los Angeles when he scored on a wonderful free kick from 20 yards by curling the ball over the wall and inside the left post to open the scoring in the 11th minute.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from the North America Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
