Oklahoma City, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed forward Mitch McGary, the first of their two first-round selections in this year's NBA Draft, the team announced Saturday.
The Thunder chose McGary with the 21st overall pick despite the Michigan product appearing in just eight games for the Wolverines this past season. The preseason All-American was shut down in mid-December by a lower back injury.
McGary also reportedly tested positive for marijuana during last spring's NCAA Tournament, which would have rendered him ineligible to play for the Wolverines in 2014-15.
The 22-year-old put together a strong freshman campaign in 2012-13, however, highlighted by a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament team after averaging 14.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks to help Michigan reach the championship game.
McGary is expected to play for the Thunder at the Orlando Summer League which begins Saturday.
Oklahoma City also selected Stanford forward Josh Huestis with the 29th overall pick of last month's draft.
