McMorris Rodgers sets new record as mom in Congress

Republican Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington state scored two firsts on Sunday, becoming the first woman to give birth three times while in Congress and the first to do so while serving as a House leader. McMorris Rodgers, 44, who heads the House Republican Conference, gave birth to Brynn Catherine Rodgers at 6:19 a.m. Sunday.

Republican Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington state scored two firsts on Sunday, becoming the first woman to give birth three times while in Congress and the first to do so while serving as a House leader.

McMorris Rodgers, 44, who heads the House Republican Conference, gave birth to Brynn Catherine Rodgers at 6:19 a.m. Sunday. She weighed 7 lbs. 6 oz. and joins her brother Cole, 6, and sister Grace, 2.

McMorris Rodgers made the announcement this afternoon on Instagram, posting a photograph of her with the baby.

"Nothing compares to the miracle of bringing a new life into the world. She's beautiful and seems to be taking it all in stride," McMorris Rodgers wrote. "Our hearts are full."

She's planning to run for another term next year, too.
