The body found in a Florida Everglades canal is that of an 18-year-old male who had been reported missing earlier this week, police said.
The family of Jesus Trejo called police after they did not hear from him for more than 24-hours. Late Wednesday, Miami-Dade Police Department divers located and removed the body of an adult male from a nearby canal.
The body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s office and identified as Trejo’s on Thursday.
According to investigators and his family, Trejo was last seen Tuesday at a friend’s home in Miami-Dade.
Information led police to the area of Southwest 392nd Street and 232nd Avenue, where Trejo’s blue Honda was found, parked on the roadway, apparently abandoned.
Police K-9 units, air and ground support from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Sweetwater police assisted Miami-Dade police in the search.
The investigation on the cause of death continues.
