A woman was shot Friday morning in the 5200 block of Sheridan Street in Hollywood, according to police.

She was taken in serious condition to Hollywood Memorial Hospital, said Hollywood police Sgt. Pablo Vanegas.

Officers were called to reports of shots in the area just before 8 a.m., Vanegas said, and found the wounded woman on the ground. After she was taken to the hospital, her belongings remained on the sidewalk.

It’s unclear whether the woman, in her late 20s or early 30s, was walking in the area or was in a car.

Police are looking for a silver Audi driven by a man and seen leaving the area.

“It was right outside our classroom so that makes it kind of really scary,” Robert Broun told CBS4. “I heard the popping noises really close. I kind of in my head thought it was gunshots but I didn’t want to say anything.”

This report will be updated as more information becomes available.
