Motorized Trikkes, Segways and electric bicycles and scooters will still be allowed to cruise up and down Hollywood’s Broadwalk — at least for now.

Deciding that a proposal to ban motorized vehicles from the crowded beachfront path wasn’t enough, the City Commission asked for a more comprehensive approach. The commission specifically asked for legislation regarding banana bicycles, which are low to the ground, and improving signage.

“Regardless of the activity it has to be done in a reasonable manner,” said Mayor Peter Bober.

Several residents and business owners spoke Wednesday on both sides of the issue. Those who support the motorized vehicles asked the commission to focus on speed and safety regardless of the piece of equipment. Those against said the two-mile beachfront path wasn’t a place for motorized vehicles.
