A young woman who jumped off a Rickenbacker Causeway bridge suffered several fractures to the spine when she hit the water.
The woman was identified Monday as 22-year-old Jessica Savitz. She was to be released late Monday from Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, said spokeswoman Beverly Counts Rodrigues.
Savitz will have a temporary brace, Counts Rodrigues said.
Friend Jessica Medina told Miami Herald news partner CBS4 that a group of people were jumping off the William Powell Bridge for fun on Sunday evening.
Savitz, she said, was the only one who was injured.
“When she fell, she landed in a sitting position versus feet straight down and it hurt her back,” Medina said.
A snorkeler saw her and swam over to help. Miami Fire-Rescue responded and took Savitz to the hospital.
