Backpacks, gym bags and large bags will not be allowed at Thursday’s Corporate Run in downtown Miami, organizers have announced.

Race organizers are working with the Miami Police Department, which has “added extra security, most of which will not be a visible,” according to a statement released Tuesday.

More than 25,000 participants from more than 800 companies are expected at the 2013 Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run, which will be centered at Bayfront Park. Rolling street closings will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, and start with detours on Biscayne Boulevard from Northeast Fifth Street. The race is scheduled from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Street closings will span from Biscayne on the east, 13th Street on the south, Second Avenue on the west and Fifth street on the north.

Organizers said participants need to plan ahead and leave their bags behind at home or the office.

A week ago, two bombs exploded at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three people and injuring more than 100.
