Police have released the identities of the homeowner and alleged burglar involved in Thursday morning’s fatal shooting at a northwest Miami-Dade home.

According to investigators with Miami-Dade police, Ernest Holdman was burglarizing “an enclosed trailer” just before 5 a.m. on the property of Dennis Law at 1815 N.W. 121st St. when Law confronted him.

That’s when Law shot Holdman, police said.

Paramedics pronounced Holdman, 31, dead outside the scene.

Police say Law, 49, has been cooperating with investigators and has been released from police custody. However, the shooting remains under investigation and police are consulting with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office.
