South Miami shooting victim walks into post office

South Miami Police say they are investigating a shooting after the victim walked into a post office Monday morning and crumpled to the floor.

A shooting drew police, paramedics, and media helicopters and trucks to South Miami Monday morning when the victim walked into a post office, asked for help and then crumpled to the floor.

The victim, whom police have not yet named, told investigators he had a confrontation with the shooter about a block away from the post office around 8:30 a.m. while walking his girlfriend to a nearby Metrorail station, according to Major Rene Landa. He said he walked away, but saw the shooter again after dropping off his girlfriend.

That was when the man, who was on a bicycle, pulled out a gun and shot him, he told police.

The victim then walked into the post office at 59th Place and Southwest 70th Street with a bullet hole through his shoulder, Landa said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue treated the wound on-scene, according to Landa.

Landa said the victim was “a lot uncooperative. Didn’t want to give us any information. Wouldn’t tell us who the subject is.”

But he said police do have some evidence, including video surveillance, and are now searching for the suspect.
