This Great Grove Bed Race returns to Coconut Grove for its 30th year this weekend.

In previous years, The Great Grove race has raised funds for the Alonzo Mourning Foundation, the Junior Chamber of Miami and the Boys and Girls Club. This year proceeds will go to the Easter Seals South Florida

“We are hoping to collect about $10,000,” said Daisy Lewis-Salazar, Coconut Grove Merchant Group event director. “The racers have been getting better and better every year.”

Local businesses, residents, organizations, and clubs will participate in the race from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, with 30 beds racing to the finish line on Grand Avenue and Commodore Plaza. But speed is not the only way to win.

Judges, including celebrity Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado and City Commissioner Marc Sarnoff, will be judging in different categories: Décor, theme, best engineered and the crowd’s favorite bed.

There will be food and live entertainment organized by more than 60 volunteers.

Kickoff begins Saturday with the Pajama Pub Crawl through coconut grove restaurants and bars.
