Miami police have arrested a man in an armed robbery and sexual assault outside Coconut Grove Elementary School.

Two people were talking outside a car about 5 a.m. Thursday at the school, 3351 Matilda St., when a man approached them with a gun, police reported.

“The suspect grabbed the woman and while holding her at gunpoint, sexually assaulted her behind a nearby dumpster,” according to a press release.

Meanwhile, her friend escaped and looked for help.

Miami police’s special victims unit responded, and the Miami-Dade schools police and Coral Gables police helped search for the rapist.

Miami police on Thursday found a man matching the description.

They arrested Gary Arroliga, 25, and charged him with armed sexual battery, armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and false imprisonment.
