Judging by the newest depth chart released Monday night, the University of Miami’s starting quarterback Sept. 1 against Boston College will be Stephen Morris.

Morris, a junior, was listed as the No. 1 quarterback without an “OR’’ between his name and that of redshirt sophomore Ryan Williams, who appears to be the new backup after running the scout-team offense in 2011 as a transfer from Memphis.

In the pre-fall camp depth chart, the quarterbacks had the “OR’’ between their names.

Over the past two seasons, Morris has thrown for 1,523 yards, seven touchdowns and 11 interceptions – nine of those during his freshman season, when he started four games.

Morris missed spring practice this year after undergoing postseason back surgery, but according to coaches, has come back even stronger.

“They’ve been really competitive,” UM coach Al Golden said Saturday, citing Williams’ “phenomenal’’ accuracy – “He’s over 78 percent for camp” – and Morris’ impressive rehab. “I am surprised at Stephen’s conditioning and strength level. I thought there would be more of a gradual integration. But there really hasn’t. He’s been all-in every practice to the point where I had to sit him. His conditioning, his core, everything is holding up really well.”

In other depth chart news, senior cornerback Brandon McGee is listed ahead of freshman Tracy Howard; and freshman Dequan Ivery is listed as the starting defensive tackle opposite Darius Smith.
