A kidnapping plot in Homestead that involved a ransom demand of $250,000 left an armed woman dead and five men in custody.
The woman was shot by police at a trailer park at 220 NE 12th Ave.
The drama started Wednesday night when a family reported to Miami-Dade police that a 17-year and 19-year-old were kidnapped at gunpoint.
Undercover Miami-Dade police went to the Cocowalk Trailer Park and stormed a mobile home unit, confronting six suspects in the kidnapping plot.
A woman, who police say was armed with a handgun, ended up shot during the raid. The teens, also inside the mobile home, were rescued and taken to an area hospital. One suffered beating wounds, according to police.
“When the officers entered the residence there was a confrontation and one subject was killed on the scene,” Detective Rosanna Cordero-Stutz, a police spokeswoman, told Miami Herald news partner CBS4.
“One of the victims was severely beaten and tortured,” she said.
Police have not yet released the names of those arrested.
“It’s shocking because nothing like this has ever happened in this community,” neighbor Guillermo Rodriguez told CBS4. “It’s really shocking.”
