The NBA’s defending champions begin their preseason schedule Oct. 7 in Atlanta before flying to China for a pair of games against the Los Angeles Clippers in Beijing and Shanghai.

The Heat released its preseason schedule Tuesday. In addition to its visit to China, the Heat will play exhibition games in non-NBA cities Kansas City and Raleigh, N.C., in preparation for the 2012-13 regular season. Miami is scheduled to play eight preseason games in all, including three at AmericanAirlines Arena.

The Heat opens its home preseason schedule Oct.18 against the Detroit Pistons and then plays host to San Antonio on Oct. 20. From there, the Heat travels to North Carolina and Missouri for back-to-back road preseason games. The Heat plays Charlotte in Raleigh on Oct. 23 before taking on the Wizards in Kansas City on Oct. 24.

Miami ends its preseason schedule with a home game against the Hornets on Oct. 26. The regular season begins Oct. 30 with a home game against the Boston Celtics.
