It began when a customer wanted to buy alcohol. It ended with a flare gun.

On Friday at 10:28 a.m., an unidentified man walked into El Eden Restaurant in unincorporated Miami-Dade where his ex-girlfriend worked as a waitress. He ordered a beer and asked her to pay for it. She refused.

The suspect then threw paint on her and shot her with a flare gun, said Detective Edna Del Castillo, a Miami-Dade Police public information specialist. The first shot missed while the second one hit her in the abdomen.

The waitress was transported to a hospital. Police did not release the name of the hospital and said they did not have information about her condition.

The suspect is under arrest. Police also confiscated his car.

No one answered the phone at El Eden Restaurant, located on 10755 SW 190th St.
