The discovery of two bodies in Northwest Miami-Dade Monday afternoon may be linked to a missing persons case involving two teenagers, but late Monday night police would not confirm any connection.
The bodies were found just before 4 p.m. several yards from each other in a marsh in a desolate area near the intersection of Northwest 133rd Avenue and Northwest 25th Street.
One body lay on dry brush; the other was across a road in about two feet of water.
Late Monday night, police would not reveal the gender of the victims nor whether the discovery and the missing teens case were linked.
“At this time, we are not making a conclusive connection between the missing persons case and the bodies that were recovered,” Miami-Dade police spokesman Detective Roy Rutland said.
But the gruesome discovery is being investigated as a homicide, Rutland told the station.
In the darkness, a Medical Examiner’s Office van removed the bodies.
Family members who camped out at the scene told WPLG-Channel 10 they hoped the bodies were not those of the two missing family teens. They said police were being tight-lipped with them about the victims.
“Hopefully, they are fine and can be reunited with their family,” one woman told the station.
Hours before the discovery, Miami-Dade police had been called to the area by family members of the missing people, police said.
The search team included dogs, the aviation unit and divers, began combing the area just after noon.
