 Best for: Sun lovers, couples, singles, families.

 Getting there: American flies nonstop from Miami to Providenciales, a trip of an hour and 40 minutes. Connecting flights take 11 hours or longer.

 Cost of a weekend getaway: Round-trip airfare starts around $450 from Miami; online travel agencies were offering three-night air-hotel packages from about $750 for mid-September.

WHERE TO STAY

 Sibonné Beach Hotel, Grace Bay Beach, Providenciales; 800-528-1905, www.sibonne.com. Low-key, two-story beachfront motel with a Caribbean feel. Rates $110 to $395 a night.

 Comfort Suites, Ports of Call, Grace Bay Road, Providenciales; 649-946-8888 or 877-424-6423, www.comfortsuites.com. Across from Grace Bay Beach. Rates from $115 a night.

 Club Med Turkoise, Grace Bay Beach, Providenciales; 800-258-2633, www.clubmed.us. Beachfront adults-only resort with many activities. Weekly rates (Couples Escapes) begin at $1,110 per person and includes food, beverages and activities.

Among the high-end resorts:

 Parrot Cay, Providenciales; 877-754-0726, www.parrotcay.como.bz. This 1,000-acre private island resort, once a hideout for swashbuckling sailors, draws celebs and wealthy travelers. Rates: $525 to $3,200 a night, doubles.

 Grace Bay Club, Providenciales; 800-946-5757, www.gracebayclub.com. Recently expanded and renovated, the all-suites resort has adults-only and family sections. Rates: $501 to $1,821 for doubles, a night.

WHERE TO EAT

 Da Conch Shack & Rum Bar, Blue Hills Road, Providenciales; 649-946-8877, www.conchshack.tc. Conch salad and fritters are the specialty. Menu items, $8-$28.

 Smokey's on Da Bay, Blue Hills Road, Providenciales; 649-941-7852. Breaded pork chops, curry goat and barbecued ribs. Dinner entrees average $16 to $22.

 O'Soleil, Princess Drive at the Somerset on Grace Bay; 649-946-5900, www.thesomerset.com. Island-inspired dining in an elegant setting. Seared Pacific scallops, duck breast are favorites. Entrees $18-$48.
