Screen gems: What’s ahead in movies and on TV for the week of May 25

The week ahead at the movies and on TV

Big screen

Opening Friday

Maleficent (PG): Angelina Jolie radiates elegant evil in this Disney tale about the villainous fairy from Sleeping Beauty and the young princess (Elle Fanning) she curses.

A Million Ways to Die in the West (R): Seth McFarlane (Family Guy, Ted) wrote, directed and stars in this comedy about a cowardly sheep farmer trying to learn courage in the wild, wild West. Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson and Neil Patrick Harris are among the people helping him out.

Chinese Puzzle (R): After his wife leaves him and moves to New York with their two children, a Frenchman decides he misses them too much and follows them overseas.

Rene Rodriguez

Small screen

Mad Men (10 p.m. Sunday, AMC): I’m not sure how this half-season season is going to end, but according to last week’s preview someone slams a door, a phone rings and people are wearing shoes.

Petals on the Wind (8 p.m. Lifetime, Monday): This sequel to “Flowers in the Attic” had better be good, or I'll be creating my own sequel, “Thumb on the Remote.”

America’s Got Talent (8 p.m. Tuesday, NBC): Why don’t they put some of it on the judging panel?

Crossbones (10 p.m. Friday, NBC): White-bearded “Being John Malkovich” star John Malkovich portrays the pirate Blackbeard in this new drama from the creator of “Luther.”
