‘Lear’ re-imagined in GableStage reading
Playwright Richard Janaro, retired from many years of teaching at Miami’s New World School of the Arts, has re-imagined King Lear as the story of a homeless CEO who has a thing or two to learn in his play Evicted. The script will get a staged reading at 7:30 p.m. Monday at GableStage in the Biltmore Hotel, 1200 Anastasia Ave., Coral Gables.

Japanese sisters take gold in Dranoff 2-piano finals
Japanese sisters Ayaka and Yuka Yamamoto, who have been performing together for four years as Duo Yamamoto, won the gold medal and $25,000 top prize Thursday night at the 12th Dranoff International 2 Piano Competition in Coral Gables. The pair triumphed with their interpretation of Poulenc’s Concerto for two pianos and orchestra in D minor.

Quartet opens Mainly Mozart Festival with Hungarian rarity
At the opening concert of the Mainly Mozart Festival, the most interesting work was not by Mozart. It was by the Hungarian composer Ernõ Dohnányi, whose long life took him from the rich musical world of late 19th century Budapest to a grave in Tallahassee, where he died in 1960 after several years at Florida State University. Although Dohnányi’s reputation has faded somewhat, his works are still played, and on Sunday the Amernet String Quartet gave an intense, committed performance of his String Quartet No. 2.

Choreographer Octavio Campos gets a boost from Baryshnikov
Miami choreographer, performer, producer and teacher Octavio Campos, who has mentored countless South Florida artists, begins a two-week residency on Monday at the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York. Legendary founder Mikhail Baryshnikov was so struck by Campos’ performances with the Rosie Herrera Dance Theater that he invited Campos to start creating a work at BAC.

Seraphic Fire wraps season with delightful request night
Seraphic Fire has an unusual, appealing twist wrapping up its 11th season. Each “Cathedral Classics” ticket holder received an email allowing them to vote for their favorite choral works from a list of more than 30 pieces. The resulting season-closing program is a reservoir of 20 possible works, with the final lineup chosen by artistic director Patrick Dupré Quigley and the ensemble before each concert.
