Art Basel | Calvin's ex has 'Horse' sense

Similar stories:

Kelly Klein, ex-wife of Calvin, has explored swimming pools, underwear and crosses in previous coffee table books. She takes on horses in a hefty, $150 tome (Rizzoli) that some partygoers at a Raleigh hotel cocktail party Wednesday evening carted away two and three copies at a time. Things are tough all over, so the book wasn't a freebie. But Basel-going guests of the book signing, hosted by Raleigh owner Andre Balazs, seemed happy to pull out credit cards.

Said Klein, who keeps seven horses: ``I've been obsessed with horses since I was 6. I've competed. I show horses in Palm Beach. This is an extreme horse book. They are so loyal, so beautiful, such great pets, such amazing athletes. Extremely kind.''

Horse, a compilation of 300 images by various photographers, is larger and heavier than the average coffee table book. ''Probably seven pounds,'' said Klein. But she didn't want to shortchange her favorite animal.

``I wanted to be able to really show the veins, the muscles, the hair.''

Not to change the subject or anything, but is she really still friends with Calvin?

''He's on his way here now,'' she said with a smile.
