Urbanite spans globe

Urbanite Bistro, 62 NE 14th St., Miami; 305-374-0662.

If you're catching a performance at the Adrienne Arsht Center or heading to Vagabond for a night out, Urbanite Bistro, on the gritty edge of Miami's Arts and Media District, may be the ticket. Just don't stray too far from the entrance -- and do use the free valet parking.

Outfitted with dark wooden tables and an inviting bar, the bistro is hung with works by local artists. Prices are moderate, with starters $9-$14 and mains in the mid $20s.

Chef-owner Frank Imbarlina's eclectic menu spans the globe, from tuna sashimi burgers and vegetarian-friendly mushroom empanadas to starters like Moroccan lamb sliders and alligator egg rolls. Mains include a hefty grouper with ancho-chile glaze and a whole pan-seared snapper with crunchy truffle chips.

More than 30 wines are by the glass, and brews include seldom seen ones like Rogue Brewery's Mocha Porter.
