New co-op offers home delivery of local, organic produce
The Miami Beach-based Market Company, which operates nearly a dozen South Florida farmers markets, is expanding its reach this season with the Fresh Food Co-op. Organized like a CSA (community-supported agriculture) program, the co-op is offering weekly boxes of locally grown and organic produce, dairy products and specialty items (e.g., artisan bread, local honey) for 24 weeks beginning in mid-November.
Participating farmers are from South Miami-Dade as well as Palm Beach and Hendry counties, says Market Company founder Claire Tomlin, and grow a wide range of produce, from Asian vegetables to dozens of varieties of tomatoes. ``It's very exciting!'' she says.
Cost is $50 to join plus $45 per week, including home delivery from Aventura to Pinecrest. Call 305-531-0038 or visit www.themarketcompany.org.
