Our restaurant critic's Miami Spice tips

Even if dinners out got cut along with the paycheck, enticing Miami Spice deals may persuade you to open your wallet for a three-course, $22 lunch or $35 dinner ($1 less than last year) through Sept. 30.

Standbys offering especially generous menus and schedules include River Oyster Bar, Smith & Wollensky and Andrea Curto-Randazzo and Frank Randazzo's Talula.

All of Fontainebleau's restaurants are participating, with especially noteworthy deals at Scarpetta, where Scott Conant's signature spaghetti is on the menu. Gotham, which has a new chef in John Suley, offers miso-marinated black cod, braised veal cheeks and grilled skirt steak. And don't forget Hakkasan's divine Chinese. Valet parking at the hotel is free through September.

In Aventura, Bourbon Steak has an incredible Spice menu with choices like gazpacho, duck rillette and Michael Mina's classic Tai snapper with tangerine and lychee vinaigrette; add just $10 for a Kobe rib-eye fillet. On South Beach, BLT Steak is Spicing it up every night with a great-sounding menu. How about crispy pork and watermelon salad on a hot summer night?

For a taste of some of our best newcomers, consider Miami Beach's Au Pied du Cochon, Doral's 5300 Chophouse and North Miami's Petit Rouge.

As always, tip as though you're paying full price and read the fine print at www.ilovemiamispice.com, as not all restaurants offer the deal every day.
