Divorce cakes on display at Mamajuana Cafe
If this Fourth of July finds you celebrating independence of the marital kind, Elite Cake Creations may have just the thing: a line of divorce cakes intended to cushion breakups with sugar and laughter.
The Pembroke Pines company, co-owned by Jorge Garcia and his sister, Beatriz Otero, showcases its wares for potential Miami-Dade customers from 8 p.m. Thursday to 2 a.m. Friday at Mamajuana Café, 225 Altara Ave., Coral Gables. The event is free, but RSVPs are requested at 954-581-6211.
Garcia and Otero are the grandchildren of Valentin Garcia Sr., founder of Cuba's venerable La Gran Via bakery (1921-1961); www.elitecakes.com, 954-450-2685.
