Grammy-winning singer Jon Secada and Broadway veteran Linda Eder will lead a cast of more than 100 local performers in director Neil Goldberg’s production WE, created especially for Broward County’s centennial celebration. The performance caps the year-long celebration at 8 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW Fifth Ave. Fort Lauderdale.
Also on the roster for the show are So You Think You Can Dance winner Eliana Girard, breakout star from The Voice Sisaundra Lewis, X Factor singing sensation Lillie McCloud and YouTube sensation/popping dancer Marquese Scott.
At the conclusion of the WE performance, an audience vote will determine a favorite performer, who will win a $10,000 cash prize sponsored by the Neil Goldberg Dream Foundation. The foundation will award each of five runners-up $1,000 cash prizes.
Tickets are $25-$85 and are available via Ticketmaster, www.browardcenter.org, at Broward Center’s box office or by calling 954-462-0222. VIP dinner and ticket packages are $160 and include front orchestra seating plus a pre-show dinner in the Mary N. Porter Ballroom at 7 p.m.
WE is presented by Broward 100 as part of the grand finale of Duende, a lineup of events to celebrate the county’s 100th birthday through art, culture and entertainment.
Also among the Duende events is the Duende A.M.P. Fest, a concert taking place on Oct. 4. Local bands can compete for a chance to be on the roster by uploading a video to facebook.com/pompanoamp to get into the A.M.P. Fest’s Most AMPed Band contest. Deadline for submissions is Wednesday. The videos will be reviewed by a panel of industry experts, and the top 10 bands will perform at the festival at Pompano Beach Ampitheater from 3 to 6 p.m. Oct. 4, with the winning band going on to open for the event’s featured performers.
