COMING TO TOWN
The Bravery: tunes made for strutting
Fans of post-punk and electronic music have a chance to catch New York band The Bravery in South Florida on Friday. Expect new tunes from the band's upcoming album, Slow Poison, and such hits as An Honest Mistake and Time Won't Let Me Go. Lead singer Sam Endicott took some time to chat with us:
Are you excited for the show?
``The best thing is when you get to play new songs live. I am really looking forward to this tour because we get to play stuff we've never played before. It's one thing to do it in the studio, but onstage it's visceral, like a punch in the gut. A lovely punch.''
What are your fans like?
``Sometimes people know the words to new songs. It's like they've been studying YouTube. It's crazy how they know them before the album comes out! This one girl said that when she puts our music on and walks down the street it makes her strut and feel cool. I liked that.''
What is your new album like?
``Very live-sounding -- like human beings playing it as opposed to computers. It's bassier. We wanted to make it sound like everything is under water.''
What's best about smaller venues?
``It's fun when you can be there with the crowd and feel them sweating next to each other. It's all about the intimacy of a place.''

The Bravery plays the Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale at 8 p.m. Friday. Tickets $19.99 via ticketmaster.com.
