GO & DO

On the cheap | Free (or almost free) music

Hear free music -- and we're not talking illegal downloads. We're talking free (or almost free) live music this weekend:

Hollywood Beach Clambake: Styled after the New England tradition, this bash offers seafood and music and it's free (except for your eats). Features Grammy-winning Latin jazz legend Poncho Sanchez, Jason Ricci and New Blood, Beatles tribute band Anthology and Marijah and the Reggae All-Stars; 5-9 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturdayand 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday. Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, (at the beach and Johnson Street), Hollywood; free. 954-926-3377 or www.hollywoodbeachclambake.com.

We cannot overlook the grandaddy of the music scene, Tobacco Road with its rock bottom (if not free) cover charges of $5-$10. the club is at 626 S. Miami Ave., Miami, 305-374-1198 or www.tobacco-road.com. It rocks, too. At 10 p.m. Friday, it's Don Sha: Natural Cure Festival at 10 p.m. and on Sunday it's Nil Lara Band at 10 p.m. Saturday; Cover is a mere $5.

Another fave venue of ours is Jazid at 1342 Washington Ave., Miami Beach (305-673- 9372 or www.jazid.net). On Friday, Adrian Vera, an L.A.-based solo artist, performs his original music set to acoustic guitar; 9:30-11:30 p.m. Friday; cover is only $10. 323-447-8200 or www.myspace.com/adrianveramusic.

If you've set aside a few precious bucks, you can hear big names like Arturo Sandoval on Saturday and Shawn Colvin with Bruce Hornsby on Thursday at Festival Miami at UM this week (see our music listings). But don't despair if your pockets are empty. At 8 p.m. on Sunday, those great Festival Miami folks present a free concert of popular songs by students and faculty of the Bruce Hornsby Songwriting Institute. At UM's Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Dr., Coral Gables. 305-284-4940 or www.festivalmiami.com.

Get into a Latin groove at Kukaramakara Club, 60 NE 11th St., Miami and groove to Los Amigos Invisibles, a Venezuelan band that plays a blend of disco, acid jazz and funk mixed with Latin rhythms; 8 p.m. Sunday; $25.

Catch Joshua Stedman at 9 p.m. Monday. This smooth vocalist cringes at being categorized, but his fans say he's a combination of Jamiroquai, Stevie Wonder and Sting. Van Dyke Cafe, 846 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach; no cover. 305-534-3600 or thevandykecafe.com.

Hollywood's own Anthony Corrado, who taught himself guitar at 8 and then moved on to master clarinet, tenor sax, flute, Irish flute, bass guitar, soprano and alto sax and trumpet performs at Open Jazz Jam 8-11 p.m. Monday; Blue Jean Blues, 3320 NE 33rd St., Fort Lauderdale; no cover. 954-306- 6330 or www.bluejeanblues.net.
