Chanteuse Idina Menzel brought her World Tour to Mizner Park Amphitheater Sunday, where she performed some of her biggest hits from Broadway to the inevitable Frozen. Menzel — with whom this columnist attended Syosset High School; I may have lip-synced behind her in Ms. Bortney’s and Mr. Bean’s chorus classes — was chatty, sassy and at times edgy, doing a mashup of Cole Porter and The Police and a rousing, torchy rendition of Radiohead’s Creep. She waxed nostalgic, remarking that it was great to be back in Boca, where she used to spend many Christmas vacations visiting her grandparents. She also got a little wistful (or was it sarcastic?), saying while her professional life had been exceptional over the past years, her personal life wasn’t quite as grand (she and ex-hubby Taye Diggs broke up). Menzel also invited several exceptionally (and conveniently placed?) talented audience members up to join her in a duet of the Rent number Take Me Or Leave Me and some cute and tuneful tots for the finale of Let It Go.
Real Housewives of Orange County star Vicki Gunvalson was in Miami over the weekend for some work. She’s in the insurance biz. Gunvalson and her gang stayed at the Loews Miami Beach, had dinner at Yardbird and remarked on Instagram upon seeing a gold Lamborghini, “only in Miami . . .#richpeoplelivehere.”
Before the Saturday night performance of Love Letters, Ali McGraw stopped at Fort Lauderdale restaurant Marti’s Bistro for dinner and some off-the-cuff conversation with fan Fran Boros, wife of prominent Miami attorney Andrew Boros. The two dished about what women talk about: skin care. “Her secret for her skin looking good is she leaves Santa Fe once month because the desert can be very drying! She was a doll,” Boros said.
