Serena Williams’ mysterious exit from Wimbledon has sparked speculation that the 32-year-old South Florida tennis champ is pregnant.
While Williams claimed a “bug” brought her to her knees and caused her to withdraw from the doubles competition with sister Venus Tuesday, the German tabloid Bild reported that it was pregnancy that caused her to become woozy on the famous British tennis court.
And Bild adds that the baby may have been fathered by Serena’s French coach and rumored boyfriend, Patrick Mouratoglou.
So far, it’s radio silence from the seven-time Sony Open winner, who looked out of it at times in Wimbledon and appeared unable to stand during doubles warmups.
She and her family have never been forthcoming with personal information, and it took the sisters months to acknowledge that their dad fathered a baby two years ago at 70.
Serena claimed this week that a virus caused her to withdraw after three days of dismal play, and she even posted on Instagram a photo of her laid up after rumors popped up that she was faking her illness.
“In London, word is that Serena was impregnated by her coach,” Bild claims.
Nine-time Wimbledon champ Martina Navratilova also sounded off on Williams’ situation.
“I find it distressing,” Navratilova told USA Today. “I think a virus, whatever they’re saying it was, I don’t think that was it. I think it’s clear that’s not the case. I don’t know what it is, but I hope Serena will be OK.”
WADE IN COURT
Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade spent nearly six hours in a Miami courthouse Thursday to argue with his ex-wife about how to split time with their two sons this summer.
The emergency hearing, which was supposed to last for about an hour, was called after the ex claimed he missed his mandatory June 22 drop-off of the kids.
Wade, 32, testified for about an hour as ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches’ attorney, Lisa Macci, made him look far from his perfect hands-on father’s image.
Wade, who has primary custody, didn’t seem to know when the boys’ school shut down for the summer. And his excuse for not dropping off the kids was that “he didn’t have anybody to do it.”
In the end, Judge George Sarduy ordered Wade to surrender the children immediately, and told the two to stick to their two-week rotation.
Funches then filed a 206-page motion to regain her status as primary residential parent.
A honey of a wife
Meet Brandy Abruzzo, 34, the divorced mother of one who just married Democratic Party up-and-comer Joseph Abruzzo, 33, a state senator from the Boca Raton area.
Abruzzo’s background includes sizzling photos that earned her the title of Honey of Week on several websites in 2010.
Oh yes: She also posed for a mugshot, in 2011, after she was arrested in a domestic violence and trespassing incident with her ex-husband. The charges were dropped.
Abruzzo, who intends to run for reelection in 2016, said he doesn’t expect his new wife to be a political liability. “I have an attractive wife,” Abruzzo said. “She did those photos when she was younger. . . . And her arrest record will be purged. And I will stand by my wife no matter what. I’ve always made a point never to attack an opponent’s family, and I hope my future opponents will show me the same courtesy.”
And finally, three members of the United States’ World Cup soccer team are hosting a homecoming party at The Clevelander Sunday in Miami Beach.
Boca Raton forward Jozy Altidore, DaMarcus Beasley and Fabian Johnson are scheduled to mingle with fans at the Ocean Drive party palace starting at 3 p.m.
The team was eliminated by Belgium in extra time Tuesday in Brazil.
