For DJ Calderone, it's about time at Space

There are some things in life we take for granted -- attention spans (that is, if they exist); original, not sampled music; The National Enquirer; and clubs that have been around for more than a month. One such place is Space, that vast temple of techno fabulousness downtown, where Saturday, for the first time in its illustrious history, DJ Victor Calderone will spin. Really? The first time in Space's existence? Wow. It seemed as if every DJ who ever got out of bed for more than $10,000 a night -- wait, who are we kidding: for more than $100,000 a night -- has spun at Space. But not Calderone. If you get there at the early bird in Space-land time of 1 a.m., tickets are just $25 at www.wantickets.com.

Another place that's been around since long before many of its regular customers were able to drink (legally): B.E.D., which has added a fabulously titled addition to its weekly roster -- Thursday night's Blake Carrington's Supper Club. For those who are too young to remember the days before TiVo and YouTube: It's named after John Forsythe's dapper character on the much loved, much lamented prime time soap opera Dynasty. But don't expect big hair and shoulder pad redux at this party, which features an avant garde dinner theatre with everything from violin and didgeridoos to mime artists and dancers. Chef Freddy Vega does his thing behind the scenes at 9:15 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. And who knows? Maybe one show will evoke the good old days of Krystle and Alexis and the time they had a cat fight in the pool. See YouTube for that one.

Down south at the new RA Sushi in South Miami, we hear that the restaurant's Flying Fish Lounge Sunday night happy hours are hopping. From 8 p.m.-midnight, the raw fish are flying for less than $5 a roll, and sushi fans are swimming in a sea of dollar sake specials.

Dollar drink specials are reminiscent of the days before Miami was chic and fabulous, which is perfect for the Scarface 25th anniversary screening Friday at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts, 174 E. Flagler St., downtown Miami. Tickets are $15 and include a special happy hour starting at 6 p.m., followed by the screening at 8 p.m. and a Q&A with star Steven Bauer. The screening is a fundraiser to benefit the center, and we have a feeling that if people get too happy during the cocktail hour, it may become a Rocky Horror-esque audience participation experience, during which everyone will be screaming hello to their little friends. Good times!

Speaking of good times: God only knows what went on at the Versace Mansion back in the day -- some of you may have experienced it firsthand -- but now everyone can get in on the action that was by plunking down $50 for the Casa Experience. Through Sept. 30, you can go on a 45-minute-long guided tour of the manse at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. or 2 p.m. While we think 50 bucks to go inside is steep, some may be intrigued enough to do it. Guests will also be able to enjoy cocktails at the exclusive Tiffany Bar and enjoy a sneak peek of the mansion's new al fresco restaurant, Casa Cucina, with breakfast and lunch menus being offered at an additional fee.

When asked why he decided to open his doors to random strangers, Casa Casuarina owner Peter Loftin said, ``In the spirit of Miami Spice, we've decided to mix it up and provide access to locals and tourists so they can enjoy the mystical Casa experience and help us celebrate the spirit and history of this beautiful mansion, a rare gem that's been preserved in the heart of South Beach. It's just too magical a place not to share with a wider audience.''

So why charge for admission, then? It's not like Loftin needs it, and while the place is fab, it's not nearly as historic as Vizcaya or even the Little Havana house of Elián González, right? According to publicist Susan Brustman, ''Revenues go back to Casa Casuarina, to help offset costs of maintaining the property and keeping it pristine and beautiful. They can make the profits from a month of tours on one or two paid events. We're just so happy they're opening to the public offering something new, educational and breathtaking to tourists and locals on Miami Beach.'' For tour tix, call 305-674-6604.

One day the mansion may become a Guess? outlet, so before we add it to our list of things we took for granted, hurry in, snap some photos and enjoy.
