Between Twitter, TMZ and Facebook, the Internet has never been more helpful in tipping us off to major news stories (and no, we're not counting the Kardashian sisters' inane musings that they're hot, tired or sick). And now, thanks to Yelp.com, the Internet is helping us save money, with Yelp Eats Restaurant Week, Monday through July 26. A slew of hot eateries -- 660, Alta Mar, Au Pied de Cochon, Cafe Sambal, Cafe Toscana, Escopazzo, Graziano's Brickell, Jaguar, La Cofradia, Pacific Time, Red Koi and Red, The Steakhouse -- will offer a $25 prix fixe menu that is actually available without much hassle by calling (unlike at some Miami Spice participants) and making a reservation requesting the Yelp Eats menu. For specific menus, check out the site at www.yelp.com/events/miami-yelp-eats.
Can't get enough of kitsch? Consider The Kinsey Sicks, a ''dragapella'' quartet known for its brutally honest brand of music and comedy, whose new show ''Wake the F--- Up America'' comes to the Colony Theatre by way of SoBe Social Club's Edison Farrow at 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $25 or $35 and available at the theater box office by calling 305-674-1040 or via Ticketmaster.
For more performance art of sorts, check out the last night of the Jim Pollock: A Phantasy Pheast Exhibit at 101 Exhibit, 101 NE 40th St., a two-venue evening of music and art, starting with an acoustic set by the fabulously titled band The Fat Mannequin at 7 p.m. and then moving over to Tobacco Road for a set by The Heavy Pets at 11:30 p.m. Attend the 101 Exhibit portion of the evening and get free admission to Tobacco Road. (For those who don't phollow Phish: Pollock is an artist known for his poster, T-shirt and CD cover work with that cultish jam band.
The sleek and chic Mondrian kicks off its new Sunday afternoon pool party this weekend. At the helm is Michael Capponi, along with Michael Martin, Keith Menin, Ben Pundole and Asia de Cuba/China Grill owner Jeffrey Chodorow. Come by foot, car or boat (a dock master will be on hand all day to assist those in Jimmy Choos). Party starts at noon and goes until midnight with tunes by DJ Keidy, poolside cocktails, massages by Agua and a brunch buffet. After the sun sets, the party moves to Sunset Lounge's Caiparinha Bar and Asia de Cuba. For table reservations, e-mail rsvp@capponigroup.com.
For a real show (or something like that) experience, consider Fuerza Bruta's new Dine and Play promotion, where for the rest of July on any Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday night, you get a ticket to the show for $53 and a special prix fixe $47 menu at some of Miami's best restaurants, including Meat Market, Michy's, Quattro, Fratelli Lyon, Michael's Genuine Food and Drink, Smith & Wollensky, Emeril's, Red the Steakhouse and Gotham Steak at the Fontainebleau. That's $100 per person for dinner and a show. All you need to do is Go to www.fuerzabrutamiami.com/dine+play.htm, make a reservation at the participating restaurants and mention the Fuerza Bruta prix fixe menu, or call 305-949-6722.
And from those who brought you Quattro, Sosta and Mokai comes a new restaurant, Soleá, at W South Beach; grand opening is Wednesday. The restaurant, open for biz already, features a touch of the Mediterranean with a focus on Spanish and Greek cuisines by Executive Chef Michael Gilligan, formerly of the Conrad and known for cooking for Prince, and Chef de Cuisine Arturo Artiles, formerly of Brosia.
Finally, in the We Should Have Known Better department: W South Beach's highly anticipated Wall is slated to open this weekend, not last weekend as we originally reported. Apparently things got delayed and could have been held up again by the time you read this.
