The beach may be a far cry from the hills of Austria, but at least this weekend, it's alive with the sound of music. Jazid's Bar Mitzvah celebration -- a 13-year milestone -- kicks off Friday and continues through the weekend with a slew of bands including Locos Por Juana and Bachaco at 8 p.m. and DJ Le Spam and the Spam Allstars, Suenalo Sound System, Local 34, The Deco Band, Fabian Hernandez, Natalie Bretoneche, Jacob Jeffries and the Max Ferber Trio beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday. Saturday's party takes place indoors and out, and while there's usually no cover at Jazid, you will be required to give a birthday gift of $30 on Saturday and $10 on Friday. For more information, go to www.jazid.com.

The economy is brittle, but there are still fabulous deals to be found. EPIC's Summer Playground specials allows locals to book a room from $199 and try for a free upgrade at check-in by playing Rock, Paper, Scissors with a staffer. The hotel's complimentary wine happy hour features sangria and snacks, and up at Area 31, you can sip on cocktails from a Play Dirty or Play Nice menu. In addition, there will be summertime games during happy hour, including Wii golf, baseball or tennis. You'll also get a $25 food and beverage credit and free in-room movies and popcorn. To book this package, available until Sept. 7, go to www.epichotel.com and enter PLGD in the rate code box or call 305-424-5266 and request the Summer Playground package.

A playground for shopaholics, SHOP Miami 2009 takes place Thursday at The Moore Building, 4040 NE Second Ave. in the Design District, in conjunction with Gen Art. For $10 in advance or $20 at the door, you'll get to peruse and purchase wares from more than 40 designers and boutiques while sipping from an open bar and indulging in assorted beauty services (also included in the ticket price) all to the music of DJ Ray Milian. The four- hour marathon begins with a VIP-only private pre-sale at 6 p.m. for $30 in advance or $40 at the door including a VIP gift bag, and continues with general admission at 7 p.m. To buy tickets to buy things you can't resist because they're on sale, call 305-695-8200 or go to www.genart.org.

For some, shopping may be an art. For Barton G. Weiss, art is a cocktail. He created the Sin-sation for the Arsht Center's Summer Shorts Theatre Festival, Undershorts. The Sin-sation is a fusion of Belvedere, fresh raspberries, lemon, mint and homemade Demerara sugar syrup, shaken with and strained over ice, served at the cocktail hour before the 10 p.m. curtain call every Friday from now until June 20. Tickets for what is being called a ''bawdy, bodacious evening'' are $42 and can be purchased at 305-949-6722. Speaking of dramatic cocktails, opening soonish on Lincoln Road is the Absolut Icebar Miami, 311 Lincoln Rd., in which the walls, bar, tables, chairs and glasses are composed of ice imported from the Tome River in northern Sweden. The place is in partnership with the Icehotel in Sweden and is the first location in the States. The temperatures inside do not freeze your ability to be inebriated quickly; the ice isn't melting, so drink slowly!

You cover up with heavy coats in the Icebar, but the opposite is the case at Shape Magazine's Bikini Body Tour, which hits Lummus Park Beach from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday featuring fitness classes, giveaways, fashion shows, educational wellness programs and more. Classes cost $10, but admission is free. For information, go to www.bikinibodytour.com. Some folks may attain that bikini body quicker now that one of the China Grill empire has succumbed to the recession. Tuscan Steak has shuttered its doors and will soon give way to a tequila bar called El Scorpion.

Also free is the opening party for Freedom Fighters, a Blaxploitation poster art show at ArtCenter/South Florida at 7 p.m. Friday, featuring tunes by Delano's DJ Sonny Daze, free booze and food. Again: free. That word in these times -- or any time -- is music to our ears.
