AFTER DARK
Dress for the occasion -- at least for one night

If I were king, people would be required to wear costumes every day of the year. But as I'm not in charge (yet), you'll have to settle for wearing ghostly getups for Halloween on Saturday.
There's an open bar at the annual Halloscream party from 8-11 p.m. at Posh Lounge (110 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale). It costs $20, and you must be in costume to partake. Raffle drawings for bar tabs and gift cards will start at midnight. Costume suggestion: Dressing up as Posh Spice would be fitting, but since it's Halloween, Scary Spice will be apropos as well.
Up for grabs is $10,000 (with half going to the winner) at the costume contest at Shooters Waterfront Café (3033 NE 32nd Ave., Fort Lauderdale) Registration is from 7-8:30 p.m. but get there early because only 80 contestants will be accepted, on a first-come, first served basis. Judging begins at 9, and soon after the band Riverdown will start rocking. Costume suggestion: The more risqué the better.
Head to 333 E. Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale to win first prize at Yolo's Halloween Bash costume contest: a five-night stay in a Costa Rican resort. The $25 cover includes live music, two complimentary drinks and food, but you can save five bucks when you prepay online at www.GoRiverWalk.com (proceeds are donated to charity). Costume suggestion: Although Yolo is an acronym for You Only Live Once, wear something flame-retardant because this nightspot is known for its cozy, outdoor fire pits.
First prize at Jake's Bar (812 Hallandale Beach Blvd.) for best costume is $100. Use $40 of it to enjoy an open bar, buffet and live music from 9 p.m. til 2 a.m. and use the rest to tip the bartenders big because they really hustle here. Costume suggestion: Angels or demons will work because the crowd is so diverse. But do yourself a favor and resist the played-out shower curtain costume ala The Karate Kid.
For a more sober but far from somber scene, go to the Zombie Pajama Party at Undergrounds Coffeehaus (2743 E. Oakland Park Blvd., Fort Lauderdale). Cheesy gore movies Bad Taste, Dead Alive and Poultrygeist -- Night of the Chicken Dead will be shown. Grab bags will be given away. Costume suggestion: The barista says she expects either sexy zombies or chickens. Not sure what that means, but I can't wait to find out.
