William Shakespeare's most pointed battle of the sexes happens in The Taming of the Shrew, the comedy that kicks off the season at Coral Gables' New Theatre this weekend. Rusty Allison, Israel Garcia and Stephen Neal play members of a traveling theater company who serve up a Commedia dell'Arte-style Shrew. Performances are 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, 1 p.m. Sunday (additional shows at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 6, Sept. 13 and Sept. 20). Tickets are $40 (student rush tickets for those under 25 are $15 one hour before showtime when tickets remain). The play runs through Sept. 27 at New Theatre, 4120 Laguna St. Call 305-443-5909 or visit www.new-theatre.org.
