You may want to stay in for this one: Pitbull is getting more festive than usual Wednesday evening to headline a sure to be raucous party broadcast live on Fox.
Mr. 305’s headquarters for the evening: the spanking new Thompson Miami Beach Hotel. The I Know You Want Me singer is set to move and groove around the property’s indoor and outdoor venues, including its two pool decks and garden.
The show, called “Pitbull’s New Year’s Revolution,” also features performances by good buddy Enrique Iglesias, The Band Perry, Fall Out Boy, Becky G. and Fifth Harmony. It airs from 8 to 10 p.m., then takes a break for the local news broadcast on Channel 7. The big man on campus will return from 11 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. to close out the start of 2015.
We squeezed in a few minutes with the Miami homeboy, born Armando Christian Perez, who turns 34 on Jan. 15.
What can viewers expect?
What songs I am gonna do is a surprise. What I can say is that this New Year’s Eve is something very special because we are creating an amazing tradition. We are literally making history. I predict Miami is gonna be the Mecca from here on out, so we are gonna have a chance to showcase how much fun our city really is.
Do you ever make resolutions?
I do. This year’s resolution — or goal, if you wanna call it that — is to make history. Which we are doing.
Any idea of your outfit yet?
I’ll wear what every gentleman wears on NYE: a nice tux. A sophisticated, powerful, sexy tux.
We are sure you will look sharp as always. What is your favorite workout these days?
I do my workout while I’m on stage for about an hour and a half — running, gunning, jumping and sweating everything off.
How do you prep for a night like this?
With a lot of Voli [his brand of low-calorie vodka], a lot of water and three limes. It’s good for the throat!
We see you recently remixed Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space.” Is she your muse these days?
I jumped on the record because I was a fan of the song and I loved Taylor’s performance at the American Music Awards [which he hosted]. Hopefully she likes it!
Your newly released video for the song “Time of Our Lives” with Ne-Yo is set on New Year’s Eve 1999. Can you talk about the significance of that?
That was the year when I first got in the game — when I got an opportunity with Luther Campbell. Uncle Luke. Mr. King of Miami himself. So it showcases what the growth has been, the evolution of the game the last 15 years. It goes to show you what happens when you focus, work hard and do good business. We had the time of our lives doing it.
Your life looks nonstop busy. What are your upcoming plans?
Touring with Enrique Iglesias. We’re going around the world again — off to Asia, Europe and Latin America and Australia. So I’m looking forward to giving you guys good music through 2015 and keeping up my ‘globalization.’ Dale!
