Ariana Grande has pulled out of the MLB All-Star Concert because, her rep says, she had her wisdom teeth removed Monday (Demi Lovato will now do the honors).
But TMZ reports that Grande likely did so because she is embarrassed after exhibiting odd behavior at a Lake Elsinore, California, donut shop on Saturday.
The store’s surveillance footage, seen on the gossip website, caught the Boca Raton native acting strangely. While waiting to be served, Grande passionately kissed backup dancer Ricky Alvarez, then licked a treat on the counter.
When a staffer brought out a new tray of something glazed, Grande yells: “What the f—k is that? I hate Americans. I hate America! That’s disgusting.”
In response to Internet haters, the 22-year-old released a statement to UsWeekly: “I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my country. What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the donuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words. As an advocate for healthy eating, food is very important to me and I sometimes get upset by how freely we as Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences that it has on our health and society as a whole. The fact that the United States has one of the highest child obesity rates in the world frustrates me. We need to do more to educate ourselves and our children about the dangers of overeating and the poison that we put into our bodies.”
The Love Me Harder singer added that she was indeed not performing at the concert due to slow recovery from oral surgery.
Hopefully, when the dust settles, Ariana can snag a spot on Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! anti-obesity task force.
