Curious about the real Wolf of Wall Street? Disgraced stockbroker Jordan Belfort, the subject of last year’s Oscar nominated movie, is bringing the “Truth Behind His Success” tour to Miami. Belfort — who served 22 months for securities fraud and money-laundering — has turned motivational speaker and will run two seminars on Sept. 17 at the Au Rene Theater in Fort Lauderdale and the next night at at the James L. Knight Performing Arts Center.
Here’s the thing: Tickets aren’t exactly selling like hotcakes. Too bad the film’s star, Leonardo DiCaprio, isn’t along for the ride.
You can nab major discounts on top online coupon sites like Living Social, Groupon and DealSaver. For example, the price for one Executive, VIP, or Platinum-Level Ticket has been slashed from $229 to $89 on Living Social. That’s a 61 percent savings.
Platinum Level is primo — guests get a spot at the cocktail reception; an autographed WOWS book; plus a photo with Belfort (just think of the Facebook possibilities).
If you hesitate because you think you’re putting money in Belfort’s coffers, don’t worry. The New Yorker, 52, says he is not making anything from this tour, and giving 100 percent of profits back to investors who lost money during his reign at the Stratton Oakmont brokerage house in the late ’80s and early ’90s as restitution.
Home sweet home
Luol Deng is settling in. EWM Realtors International’s Nelson Gonzalez reveals the new Miami Heat forward just closed on a historic waterfront home in Morningside. Price: $4.6 million.
The 29-year-old, who signed a two-year, $2 million free agent contract with the Heat, won’t be wanting for much: The 1928 Mediterranean-style home has five bedrooms, 4.5 baths, guesthouse, pool, dock and a ridiculous view. Oh, and he’s just a quick car ride from the office.
The weather is cooling down ever so slightly, but things are hot in concert venues around the South Florida area with two heavy-duty Livenation shows announced Tuesday.
