Barbatella restaurant in Naples got a recent shoutout, and not for a dining review.
RadarOnline reports that back in January, John Travolta had himself quite a night at the Italian eatery.
Pianist Mike Hennessy, told the gossip site that the “Stayin’ Alive” star was very friendly.
“John came in holding his iPhone while he was taking a video of me singing and playing,” Hennessy said. “Everyone else was sitting around the piano bar, singing and having a great time.”
Never miss a local story.
The “Saturday Night Fever” star apparently liked the fact that the performer was playing “The Lady Is a Tramp.”
“He seemed amused by it,” recounted Hennessy, who is seen sitting with his arm around the star, who has been dogged by rumors practically his whole career that he is gay. He has never flat out denied it, but addressed a 2014 lawsuit brought against him by a former employee who claimed they had a romantic relationship. “This is every celebrity's Achilles heel,” he told The Daily Beast back then.
The National Enquirer has a story calling the encounter a “man date.” But Gossip Cop busts that wide open, saying nothing at all happened.
According to a Naples Herald story, Travolta was taking selfies with other patrons as well.
“Travolta didn’t dine at the restaurant and was there for about 5 minutes but we were all in awe,” Hennessey said. “He was very cordial, even a bit bashful, but accommodated all who asked to have a photo taken with him. He’s just a genuinely nice guy.”
Gulfshore Life reports patrons were “star struck,” but nothing romantic was in play.
Travolta is a part time Florida guy, with a home in Ocala, and we will be seeing more of him around town.
Next project: playing famed Miami speedboat builder/racer Don Aronow, who was killed in a drive by shooting organized by a business associate Benjamin Kramer in 1987. He was sentenced to 19 years in prison.
Deadline.com reports Speed Kills will film in Miami Beach starting May 30.
