Things are not always as they seem in TV land.
Tarek and Christina El Moussa, the seemingly happy couple from HGTV’s highly rated “Flip or Flop” makeover show have separated.
TMZ reports that back in May the husband and wife team had an explosive argument May 23 at their Orange County, California, home and officers responded to “a call of a possibly suicidal male with a gun.” That would be Tarek.
The AP reports Christina told deputies called to the scene that Tarek took a gun, stashed it in a bag and ran outside. A helicopter was thden called to track down Tarek who had walked to a nearby state park. He said he was “blowing off some steam,” and was escorted back to the home where five guns were removed for 30 days.
Cops say there was no violence; no charges were filed.
In a statement released Monday, the parents of two say they are in counseling but have temporarily split, although professionally the two will carry on. They added that the May incident was an “unfortunate misunderstanding.”
“During the process, we are committed to our kids and being the best parents we can be,” said the real estate agents. “We will continue to work through this process civilly and cooperatively, and plan to continue our professional life together.”
HGTV says in a statement regarding the potential scandal that “Flip or Flop” “will continue production as scheduled.”
In a tweet dated from August, the duo posted “You cannot hang out with negative people and expect to live a positive life.”
The couple have been through their shares of challenges — Tarek’s thyroid cancer (which he recently announced was in remission) and Christina’s struggle to conceive, plus their real estate seminars have been under attack for being a ripoff.
