You saw “Magic Mike” and its sequel in theaters. And you probably can’t wait for the Channing Tatum-produced live show “Magic Mike” to hit Las Vegas in October.
Buckle your seat belts, friends. We have an attractive alternative right here: Australia’s hottest export since Crocodile Dundee — Thunder From Down Under.
Need a translation, mate? TFDU are a group of scantily clad men who spend an inordinate amount of time at the gym — and don’t think, but know, they can dance. The men are based in Las Vegas, but travel the world enthralling anyone who has a hankering for this type of entertainment of this nature plus the gift of sight.
So don’t say we just bring you the bad news: Thunder from Down Under are coming to The Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale at 8 p.m Tuesday, and then again at 8 p.m. Friday at The Fillmore.
We spoke to one of the chiseled stars, Kurt Joseph, who also doubles as emcee.
How would you explain the show?
Very high energy! It is 75 minutes of full on excitement, great choreography (even acrobatics) and crowd participation. Fans can expect some dynamic dance routines and a lot of chances to get on stage to be up close and personal with the boys.
You all appear to be incredibly fit. How do you prepare for it?
We need to keep our bodies in shape so we spend a lot of time in the gym. Before the show we like to get in the zone by listening to our favorite music, whatever that may be. In terms of working out, ait’s a mix between heavy weights and cardio.
What is the funniest exchange you ever had with a member of the audience?
Let’s just say there have been a lot of marriage proposals at our shows.
What is the favorite part about your job?
I love being able to travel the world and seeing places I never even dreamed of visiting. Also, I love putting a smile on women’s faces.
