“Three books that have made a profound impression on my life are Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl, Concerning The Inner Life by Evelyn Underhill and When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chödrön. A lifetime seeker, I am forever changed and inspired by these authors and especially Frankl’s quote, “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” Underhill reminds me of the importance of having an inner life and grounding ourselves in it daily while Chödrön drives us to deeply appreciate the present moment.”
Barb Schmidt, author of The Practice: Simple Tools for Managing Stress, Finding Inner Peace, and Uncovering Happiness
Schmidt appears 8 p.m. Wednesday at Books & Books, 265 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables
