Art Pick | Bass Museum exhibit

It's opening weekend for the Bass Museum's anticipated exhibition of works on paper by some of the most renowned of the Spanish Modernist masters, 20th Century Works on Paper from the Fundación Mapfre Collection: Picasso, Tápies, Miró and Others. Eighty works, including rarely seen sketches and illustrations by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, Sonia Delaunay, Juan Gris, Francis Picabia and Joaquín Torres-García, are on exhibit through Nov. 2. The show provides a look at how the masters explored their ideas in sketches, oils, watercolors and tempera works on paper that later evolved into famous works of art. Shown is Picasso's tempera on paper Untitled (Arlequín y Polichinela) from 1924. Founded in 1975, Fundación Mapfre is a prestigious cultural Spanish institution supported by Mapfre, an insurance group.
20th Century Works on Paper opens to members Friday and to the public Saturday at the Bass Museum of Art, 2121 Park Ave. (in Collins Park), Miami Beach; 305-673-7530; www.bassmuseum.org; $8 general admission, $6 seniors and students; free for members and children under 6; open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
