MAM exhibition focuses on `old favorites'

The Miami Art Museum is exhibiting ''old favorites'' from its permanent collection, and some new acquisitions at MAM's Plaza-level gallery through Nov. 2.

On view for the first time are Nancy Graves' Evergrowing Mobility, Fernand Léger's Femme au Fauteuil (Woman and Armchair), Francesca DiMattio's Untitled (Bed I), Nela Ochoa's Donde Midas se lava las manos (Where Midas Washes His Hands), and Tom Wesselmann's Brown Eyes Under Glass. The works were acquired through a combination of gifts and purchases by MAM's Collector's Council.

Also being exhibited are several works by Miami artists, including Daniel Arsham's Miami Does Paris and Pepe Mar's Blue (Da-Ba-Dee).

''The collection increasingly reflects the diversity of Miami's audience, as well as our vision for the future of MAM,'' says senior curator Peter Boswell.

RUBELL DISPLAY

The Palm Springs Art Museum in California is presenting the first show in a series of collaborations with the Rubell Family Collection of Miami.

Against All Odds: Keith Haring in the Rubell Family Collection -- featuring work Haring produced after his early mural and graffiti art -- will be exhibited from Nov. 8 to Jan. 18. Included are 70 paintings, drawings and one sculpture Haring created for his first gallery exhibition in 1982. Haring died in 1990 at 31.

The exhibition, curated by Rubell Collection director Mark Coetzee, also includes 33 works by artists who were friends and artistic peers of Haring's, among them Jean-Michel Basquiat, Francesco Clemente, George Condo, Tseng Kwong Chi, and Andy Warhol.

NEW ART MIAMI CHIEF

The annual fair Art Miami has a new executive director: Nick Korniloff, the former vice president of International Fine Art Expositions, which produces the palmbeach3 and Palm Beach | America's International Fine Art & Antique Fair expositions. Korniloff replaces Ilana Vardy, who resigned in January. Vardy, who had led the fair since 2000, said she wanted to spend time with her family and find a new professional challenge.

Art Miami wrapped its 18th year in winter 2008 with renewed success after rescheduling itself from January to run concurrently with Art Basel Miami Beach in December and moving to a 100,000-square-foot tent in Wynwood.

The 19th edition of Art Miami is scheduled for Dec. 3-7.
