'The Beauty of Paper' in Coral Gables

With the endless versatility of materials used today to make a contemporary work of art, people seem to have forgotten the most basic way in which artists express their ideas: by putting them on paper. And so with the exhibition The Beauty of Paper, The Americas Collection in Coral Gables is reminding us that works on paper are no less valuable, and celebrating the way artists have used paper for drawing, painting and printmaking. A stellar lineup of Latin American and Iberian artists are featured, including original and graphic works by Miami-based BarujSalinas, Gay García, Connie Lloveras and Cundo Bermúdez, whose colorful lithograph Mujer sentada (Seated Woman) is pictured above. Félix Angel and Pedro Ruíz of Colombia, Susana Rodríguez of Chile, and Giancarlo Puppo of Argentina also are represented.
The Beauty of Paper runs through Aug. 30 at The Americas Collection, 2440 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Coral Gables; open 10:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, noon-5 p.m. Saturday; 305-446-5578; www.americascollection.com.
